How to build an Aeroponic system, Step 6

Warning* It is very important to rinse all parts and make sure there is absolutely no debris inside the manifold. Small burs left behind from cutting and drilling the PVC pipe will clog the spray heads! It is also important to always rinse your growing medium, especially LECA or Expanded Clay Pellets. Any loose medium or debris that ends up in the reservoir can clog your micro spray jets.

Operating your Aeroponic System

The system is relatively maintenance free. Fill reservoir about half full or up to the bottom of the manifold. Plants should be braced with LECA or similar medium. Make sure new plants are receiving enough moisture until roots are able to reach the nutrient spray. This may take about a week or two and you may want to water from the top daily.

The system can be used outdoors but should be sheltered if possible to prevent rainwater from diluting your nutrient solution.

Over time, nutrient will build up on the spray jets. You should check for problems and proper operation at least once a week. If they become clogged or the pressure drops you can either replace them or try to clean them. You can use a rigid piece of wire or a needle to clear out any buildup.
