How to build an Aeroponic system, Step 1

Hole saw method:
You should consider drilling a test hole in a piece of scrap material before committing to cutting your reservoir lid.
First layout and mark where you plan to drill the plant site holes. They should be spaced according to the size of the plants you intent to cultivate, usually no less than 6". The hole for the optional access port should be near the edge wherever there may be room. Attach the hole saw assembly to your drill and cut out the holes.

Aviation Snip Method:
First layout and mark where you plan to drill the plant site holes. They should be spaced according to the size of the plants you intent to cultivate, usually no less than 6". I use a scribe compass and a fine tip sharpie to make the circular cut marks about 1/8" -1/4" less than the size of the net cups. It is usually best to make a template out of thin cardboard first and test fit the net cup. You can then use the template to mark where to cut. The hole for the optional access port should be near the edge wherever there may be room. Use a sharp knife or razor utility knife to make any small adjustments if needed.

If you are unable to obtain either a hole saw kit or the proper aviation snips a sharp blade can be used to cut the plant site holes. It is not an easy task and takes quite a bit of time. I do not recommend this method unless absolutely necessary and as always use caution! Take your time and cut slowly.

*Important note: Always keep in mind the old saying "measure twice, cut once". Once the cut is made there is no going back if the hole is too big. Always make a test cut in scrap material and test fit your net cups before drilling or cutting your reservoir lid.
