The drill and drill bits are used for drilling the holes for the optional Nutrient Level Indicator and the required plant site holes and the holes for the micro spray jets.
The hole saw bit can be purchased at hardware or home improvement stores. Most come as a two part system, which is a shaft that you can attach different size hole saw bits to. The hole saw should be 1/8" - 1/4" less than the size of your net pots. You can take the net pot with you while shopping for a hole saw to insure you get the right size.
If you use the aviation tin snips you can make any size hole needed. There are three types of snips. Straight, right and left cut. The straight cut type cannot be used for "plunge cutting".

PVC pipe can be cut several different ways. I recommend using a PVC pipe cutting tool. Especially if you must make several cuts. The ratcheting type is the easiest to use. The standard type, without ratcheting action, can cut PVC pipe of this diameter, it does require quite a bit of strength. In addition, almost any type of fine tooth handsaw can be used to cut PVC pipe but it is tiresome work. Power miter saws work well too, but do make a big mess and the plastic pieces will clog the dust outlet of the saw.
